Antarctica on a budget???

by rickford » Thu Nov 29, 2007 5:36 pm

Has anybody travelled to The Ice from South America?

I have done some research and am unable to find transportation for under $1500. I am thinking of heading there in late Janurary, 2008.

Any suggestions? :D

PS, Hey Cheif, how much would a helicopter tour cost? :P

I'm curious what transportation you found for $1500. Is that a flight from Punta Arenas to Patriot Hills ?

Hi there. I went to Antarctica a couple of years ago and my guess is you can't do it for $1,500. But, what is possible, is to get down to Ushuaia where they have several travel agencies that sell off last minute trips on various ships. (If I recall, the cheapest were around $2,000 but it all depends on your timing and of course this is from Ushuaia so you still have to get down there). Anyway, hope this helps and if you can do it at all...do it! It's a truly amazing place.
