Best 5.8-5.9's at Red Rock

by SKI » Mon Oct 25, 2010 3:19 pm

Hey, other family

I'm making my way down to Red Rock for about a week to be a climber for Halloween. This is my third trip down and I've been relentlessly plugging my buddies for their opinions concerning the best 5.8's and .9's down there. This is what I've been told so far:

Lotta Balls
Misunderstanding
Frogland
Birdland
Crimson Chrysalis
Dark Shadows

...As you can see, my list isn't too intensive and I was wondering if you all maybe had opinions regarding what the best 5.8 or .9 is down there that you have heard of/experienced.

Let me know!

If you're looking for an easy-approach day with some shorter routes, Icebox Canyon is hard to beat:

Magellenic Cloud, Cold September Corner, Mister Masters, Fold Out, and Sensuous Mortician are all excellent.

Good call, I haven't heard of many climbs back there, barring sensuous mortician. Thanks for the info!

I'm a pretty avid crack climber- any superb cracks that anyone can recommend? I've heard Atman is pretty sweet...

Two good and rather long routes that have not been mentioned: Jubilant Song (5.8) and Refried Brains (5.9). I liked Jubilant Song a lot - spectacular and no fixed gear for a change.
