Boundary Peak (Nevada) - Current Condition?

by samj » Wed Jun 18, 2014 4:22 am

Hi,

We are planning to hike to the top of Boundary Peak (Nevada) this Saturday 21st of June. We will be going through Queens mine route. I have already called visitor center for white mountain but did not get much information.

I want to check following if anyone has recently climbed it --

--How is the trail condition? Is it snow free?
--Is road leading up to trail head clear enough to take mid-size SUV?
--How far I can take my SUV? Up to queens mine or up to Kennedy saddle?

Any help is greatly appreciated. I just dont want to drive that far without knowing conditions - my alternative is Wheeler peak in Great Basin Natl Park, as it is relatively less remote.

Thanks,
SJ

Hiked White Mountain on June 12th, only patches of snow above 13,000 ish and only some snow on the last switchback up to the top. East facing/north slope probably has patches as well above 12,000.

Dated information (not from this season): The road to the mine was passable with care with a mid-size 2WD SUV. I would not recommend driving to the saddle. It's an easy walk up the road from the old mine site to the saddle.

Hiked Montgomery and Dubois from Middle Creek on 6/14. There were small patches of snow above 13k. The summit of Boundary was definitely snow free.
