Reminder for those with short memories...

3 young experienced climbers died last winter when they slipped off the Ried headwall. Deep snow and hypothermia did them in. Nobody knew they needed help until it was too late.

I think one body is yet to be recovered. Correct me, if I'm wrong.

You are not completely wrong. As I mentioned in an earlier post three young climbers fell off the Reid Glacier Headwall and died. They, however, were not experienced, at least not all of them. I have some information about the accident that I am not able to share.

Thanks for reply, ExcitibleBoy.

News was kinda skimpy... nothing specific over what they did wrong... or if they took poor risks. This matter has left me wondering.

I think that your pick of Mount Hood is a good one. However I think that your route may not be. You are at Mount Hood for 7 days. My suggestion would to climb Mount Hood via the Old Chute (Dog Route) to get a feel of the mountain as well as maybe to take a look at the Sandy Headwall Route. Also it would be good to get the monkey off your back. You can do this in the first available day. Then spend some time at 9500 feet with you camping area and traverse over to do the Sandy Headwall or if the weather is dangerous, head on down. The beauty of Mount Hood is that the south side is fairly easy to bail if you run into problem and that you relatively close to to the parking area.

There's a map of the Three Sisters Wilderness (pretty nice, shows trails, climbing routes, etc) by a company called Geo-Graphics:

They probably have them at REI also.
