Dozens of mountaineers to clean up Carstensz's peak

It is being reported that Freeport Tembagapura Mine Manager John Mosher, john_mosher@fmi.com is now allowing mountaineers to access the peak via Freeports access road. This is a shift in their policy which has previously prohibited climbers from using the Freeport access road.

This clean up trip is being run by Dr Werner who has close ties with the Indonesian Government who in turn directs Freeport to open up the road. Dr Werner will now control the majority of access to this peak and the control of the shelter that is currently being built.

Clean up Carstensz

Previously in May Dr Werner could not proceed. If you read his web he wants to ban helicopters flying into basecamp as it is not in the spirit of true climbing. Seems he is ok with building a shelter there and just driving up though!
