Mother nature is unpredictable and extremely dangerous. So many of the mountains we trek and capable of exploding at any given time. I hope everyone in Iceland is safe.

Volcanic CO2 emissions are usually not too significant when integrated over a decade or so. The ash certainly can contribute to short-term cooling, but the long-term effects are not as clear.

What always struck me as interesting was the release of radon. The last big eruption of Mt St Helens released about 3 million Curies of Rn.
