Ice Climbing Conditions??

by triskelion » Tue Jan 09, 2007 10:34 am

Hi to all, as it seems Winter sucks big time this year at least over here in the Czech Rep. with 9 degrees above zero. My question is is there any ice anywhere, except for way up high??? What are the conditions in Austria?? The Maltatal valley?? Other places?? Conditions in the High Tatras suck as well!!!

Thanks for any feed back.

I have returned 2 days ago from Austria, from the city Bad Gestein. I have been there for ice climbing with another 16 climbers from Romania. The conditions are very bad, no ice, is very hot for this time. If you like dry tooling you can try in Kaprun, you will find some routes there but the ice is also in very bad condition. My advice: do not spend you money with a trip in Austria for ice climbing.

just returned from Aosta, snowboarding in Gressoney.

We had ice climbed there 2 years ago and decided to return this year to snowboard.

Passed by the many roadside waterfalls that we had climbed a couple of years ago and found that they had not frozen this year.

Big melt continues
