Indian Point in Columbia Gorge

by ScottHanson » Tue Sep 03, 2013 4:14 pm

I took the Gorton Creek Trail to Indian Point in the Columbia Gorge yesterday. I got to the base of Indian Point, but was unsure of the route to the top. Any climbing beta for the last 30 or 40 feet route would be appreciated. Thanks!

Bump!
For any of you folks who have climbed Indian Point recently did you use a rope for safety?
Do you consider it class 3 or class 4?
I approached the 40 foot summit block section from the south on a steep descent trail.
All I could see was a tiny chute section and some exposed knobs to hang on to.
Neither looked to appealing!
Is there a more favorable approach from the one of the other three sides?
Thanks for any comment!

SH,

It sounds like your approach is the standard (probably only typical) approach. I would guess it to be class 3, didn't use a rope. I went basically up the spine. If you're careful you can minimize the exposure that's on either side (it's easier than it looks). Just don't do any moves you can't reverse coming back down. Or just enjoy the view from the rocky little saddle.

Snowslogger,
Thanks for your comments on Indian Point approach. Much appreciated. I will go back and take a second look. I am pretty sure I understand your reference to "going up the spine". I will checkout the hand/foot holds on it.
Scott
