New guidebook for Nor Cal

OK, I'm the author (with Chris Summit) and this is a shameful plug for our book that just arrived (8,000 lbs of it!)...

Larger 8"x10" format, 456 pgs, over 100 crags in Northern California, over 2,000 routes (trad, sport, TR, bouldering - maps, photos, topos)

It'll get you anywhere worth climbing north of the Kern River. A Select guide! Many out of print/or hard to get info areas - KERN, NEEDLES, KINGS/SEQI, CALAVERAS, COURTRIGHT, SONORA PASS, BEAR VALLEY, TOLLHOUSE, FRESNO DOME, SHUTEYE RIDGE... etc. Keep in mind... it's a select guide - great for road trips.

You can get a copy at

http://www.maximuspress.com/
from Marty Lewis (God bless him)

$49.95 (approx. the cost of a tank of gas but it'll last the rest of your life)

free shipping

They won't be in stores for another few weeks but it could be in your hands in a few days.

additional free topos to go with the guide are at
http://www.slatervision.com/id21.html
Sample pages also there if you want to take a peek! (table of contents)

Foreword by Royal Robbins, photography by Jim Thornburg, Jerry Dodrill, Bill Serniuk, and many others out there in the climbing community (THANK YOU! many of you provided photos or edited!)

Contributing authors also include Steve Edwards and Marty Lewis.

This has taken 5 years of my life so I'm sorry for the shameful plug but I do think it is a good book (biased of course). There was such a community involvement it was so cool to hook up with legends and regular joe locals and make new friends in the process.

So there you go! Cheers and happy climbing - Tom

Congrats on the book release! I wondered who would be the first to launch a book on climbing in Northern California... Is there a listing of peaks/routes that we can view online somewhere?

Man these books are getting more and more pricey. I hesitated for a few months walking in and out of Wilson's Eastside many times before caving in and got the Mammoth area rock climb guide. That thing is $30! All of Peter & Marty's books are pricey, imo. Congrats on the book though.

Looks like a great book. Think you could post up the TOC here? (sorry if I missed it somewhere). $50 is pretty stiff...more likely than not, I will buy it eventually tho.

Looks like the sample pages contains the table of contents -

http://slaterama.tripod.com/sitebuilder ... lPages.pdf

I was perusing this last week after it was mentioned on the Taco .. looks cool ! I already own guidebooks for South Lake Tahoe, Yosemite Valley, Tuolumne Meadows, the Placerville / Cosumnes book, two books on bay area climbing, the blue Seki book, the Castle Crags book, etc. It will be interesting to see how condensed and/or updated this guide is.

I've been waiting for this book to be released ever since I moved to Fresno in June. I already did a trip to Hammer Dome (with the topo from the website) and had a fantastic time. Apparently my book just shipped on Sat, so I'm hoping it arrives sometime this week. It should keep me busy for the next 4 years.

"California Road Trip A Climbers Guide Northern California"

Barnes & Noble online for $39 is cheapest ($36 if you're a member), but they run out often. I'll match their price.
