nice kansas/missouri/arkansas spots

I'll be driving from college in colo springs to home in pennsylvania in mid may. I've about had it with route 80 and would like to see the heart of the country. Any suggestions for stops through the above states? Prairies, hills, streams, caves, good flower spots, wildlife areas; anything to get off the road for a while. Close proximity to the major highways doesn't matter, maybe even less desirable. thanks for any input.

4.3 earthquake in IL

A 4.3 earthquake shook the northwestern suburbs of Chicago this morning at about 4am, not far from where I live. I didn't feel it but my pet birds woke me up in a panic.

Source.

Starved Rock Ice

So, a friend and I went to Starved Rock to do some ice climbing last weekend. We knew the weather was a little on the warm side so, it was known that the ice could be too thin to climb. As you can guess a sign on the sign-in sheet said no climbing Ice is too thin. We took a hike down to french canyon and found the ice quite thick. I can't put the ...

Soooo Flat.

Heck, now that the wise ones have removed PnP from SP, I figured I would jump into the regional boards so I could get to know some of you-all.

My name is Guy Keesee, I climb rocks, sometimes.

I have a question for all of you.

Is the world really flat?

later,

driving to CO

Anybody have a preferenace for driving to Colorado from the Midwest? I-70? I-80? I'm heading out after Christmas from Michigan. Both are approx. 24 hours drive time. Is one more scenic than than the other? (Yes, I realize the states I'm driving across are less than scenic...) How about major traffic jamming construction?

Any opinions would be appreciated!
