I'm looking for a new technical pack and am not real familiar with Osprey. Does anyone have experience with the Mutant 38 pack? What is the difference between the Mutant and the Variant models? Thanks in advance.

One of odd things I noticed when carrying a cell phone into the wilderness... the battery is usually dead in 36 hours - even tho I never used it.

I suspect the phone keeps pinging out trying to reach a network and draws the batteries down.

Does anyone have this problem?

Secondly... do rescuers have equipment... to call a lost hiker from a helicopter or anything?

Ok, here my story.

Last april, while running, someone challenged me to a sprint. What the heck I thought.

Afterwards, a little pain in my left knee. Ah well happens often I thought.

Next day, same problem, hmmm, it'll pass, right?

I continued running for some weeks, until I thought it wise to stop running because the pain wasn't diminishing.

Fast forward to september. After 2 weeks of trekking and bouldering in the French Alps, ...

Hi,

I've been doing some research on Ojos del Salado and hoping to make it down from the US this coming fall. However it seems that entering from Chile takes considerable paperwork. Can anyone comment on their experience(s) climbing Ojos del Salado from Chile and/or from the east?

Can anyone comment on reputable guide services / transport up the road and USD costs?

One pair of Vasque ICE 9000 double plastic mountaineering boots in a men's size US 10, EU 44 and UK 9.5. These are the original 'red' Italian model circa 2004, not the later 'orange' version which has had many problems with the construction. Boots were used on a Aconcagua climb and are not needed for future climbs. Inner boots are in great condition and were not walked in without the plastic overboot. I do not ...

Not for myself though...I am feeling very bad for promising my climbing partner to join him there and having to bail at the last minute due to job searching/interview scheduling.
