Cassin vs Harvard route

Hello,

I am just looking for opinions about an Alaska trip we might be attempting this may. Anyway, which do you think would be better trip. The Harvard route on Huntington or the Cassin on Denali? I have climbed the West Butt on Denali already and a new peak might be fun, but the Cassin just looks so tasty!

Well, I am just doing some research and looking for opinions. The difficulties of both are ...

What's New in the Midwest...

I find that Midwest submissions tend to get easily missed on SummitPost. Truthfully, climbs our region have a hard time stacking up with more vertically favored regions to the east and west. Therefore you won't likely find any of our peaks making Photo of the Week. Nonetheless, Midwesterners have carved themselves a nice little niche here on SP and I thought it would be helpful to create a central point where we can share the ...

SP CA gathering?

I see our CO friends always do a yearly winter gathering. Wonder if there is something similar for Cali?

If no, would there be any interest in it? Suggestions? Comments? Could be fun...

Rhyang

Hello all,

It is with great sadness that I have to report that Rob ("Rhyang") was in a very bad car accident last Thursday night while driving to go climbing. We visited him today (Saturday) at the hospital and he is pretty banged up but is in stable condition. I know Rob has many friends and acquaintances here at SummitPost and he wanted me to explain his absence. (I believe he also had arranged to ...

Mount Muir's East Buttress

Been looking at the summit log of Mt. Muir (for those that have done the East Buttress) and seeing mixed reviews. One person described it as "aweful", Misha makes a neutral comment (mostly beta info), and one person said it was great. Secor (who I only use as a basic reference but never beleive half of what he mentions! :P) seems to make it out as a ...

Matterhorn Peak - Double Dihedral ?

I was perusing Secor for info on Matterhorn Peak's N. Arete and noted the Double Dihedral ( 5.8 ) route.

Curious to know if it's good, and how much actual 5.8 is on the route ... I see it seems to start from the vicinity of the West Couloir.

Sierra Yellow-Legged Frog

Among one of the more controversial re-habitations is that of the yellow-legged frog in the Sierra mountains. Up to 10 to 15 % of the High Sierra Lakes are targeted for fish extermination and then re-establishment of habitat for this declining population of frog species. (Correction: 5 to 15% of trout-bearing lakes in Sequoia/Kings Canyon).

I would welcome anyone with inside knowledge on this current effort. I, for one, being an avid fisherman, fully support ...

What's New in Wyoming

I couldn't find a thread already started on this (only for 2006), so here goes. I hope it's not a duplicate!

Added to Bighorns: "Storm Shelter Mountain" http://www.summitpost.org/mountain/rock/260618/-storm-shelter-mountain-bighorn-mountains-wyoming.html

Fall in the Sierra

I hope I'm not being redundant, but I don't recall seeing a Fall Colors thread for the Sierra.
So, I offer one up.

Here was a wonderful way to start my Birthday 2 weeks ago:
