Northern Yosemite 50 Mile Loop & Volunteer Peak

by Pantilat » Tue Aug 09, 2011 7:49 pm

A 50 mile adventure run loop in Northern Yosemite beginning at Twin Lakes, including five passes, the Benson Lake riviera and a summit of Volunteer Peak. Total trip time of 15:28; starting at 5:10 am and finishing at 8:38 pm. The trails are snow-free except on the north side of Burro Pass and both sides of Mule Pass. This is a relatively popular backpacking loop and for good reason - spectacular scenery throughout with some great photography opportunities!

Many photos here.

Thanks for sharing the video and still images. I've been meaning to get deeper into that part of the Sierra and perhaps that will be the trip for this September...nice work!!!

One Q: you mentioned that it was a "popular" loop but I'm assuming that you encountered very few people, yes/no?

Cheers,
David

Believe that's from the summit of Volunteer Peak. I was up there last year and remember that shot as our group was camped down near that lake.

Exactly, the last photo is from the summit of Volunteer. Smedberg Lake is nicely framed by the surrounding granite and Sawtooth Ridge in the distance.

We encountered very few people (<30 the entire trip) and most were between Seavey Pass and Smedberg Lake along the Pacific Crest Trail.
