ok, i didnt win the whitney lottery this year so i was looking for some other california 14ner thats not to hard and doesnt require a permit.any ideas?

Dang, forgot about the lottery system. I'm so glad I did it during the winter months when that doesn't exist.

I really enjoyed Mt Shasta. For the Avalanche Gulch route you need only ice axe and crampons skills, although it may melt out late in the year.

ya a 14er would be nice.mt shasta sounds kool but do you need crampons all year?

There is a hard route up Shasta from N or Avalanche gulch, and that route is mainly a talus and trail slog for 7000'+ later in the year. I would not include Shasta in a list of 14ers that are "not too hard."

There is a good paved road to ~9900' at Horseshoe Meadows. You can car-camp there the night before, start early in the morn.

Since you are 3 years from a driver's license, how do you plan to get there?

o i have to convince my parents somehow.i did that for white mountain and they went, so it will work this time to! i hope

You could do what I did when I was younger which was to bike to the mountains. Eventually I discovered that some buses go close to the mountains making planning trips a bit easier.

At first, after reading Josh Lewis's extraordinary efforts to go to the mountains I thought he was a nut. Now I believe his drive and passion will lead him to become an extraordinary alpinist. BTW, how can you not like Mt Shasta? It is such a beautiful peak.
