Leaf peeping

by Denjem » Mon Nov 07, 2016 11:27 am

All,
How is the leaf peeping these days on the East side? If any of you remember the Chief, he used to call the thread Leaf Porn. If not, then you have no idea what I am talking about and should disregard this part of the thread.

Just curious... where are the good places on the eastern side of the Sierra to see fall colors? Having grown up in Tennessee that used to be one of the great joys of October, the Smokies lit up with a whole palette of colors. Any great places like that in the eastern Sierra so I can make plans for next Fall?

Just curious. I will be up there anyway and thought it would narrow down the hiking decisions. Has anyone been up to Laurel Lakes and seen the Aspens?

I haven't been to Laurel Lakes lately but suspect that area is blown. I made a trip to Carson City from Bishop a few days ago. From a car seat aspens are done from Lee Vining south. Saw one small patch up around Lundy Lakes. From then on going north there is some color in cottonwoods along the Walker River but it is going fast. That area experienced some pretty high wind events on October 30 stripping some of the leaves.
