Orizaba This Weekend

by crmlla2008 » Thu Mar 06, 2008 6:06 pm

Anyone been up recently that can give me info on route conditions?

Also, high and low temperatures to expect at the hut and foot of the glacier? (realizing of course that the weather does at it pleases, but average is good enough)

Thnx

This will be old news, but 3 weeks ago the conditions were great. There was some ice in the Labrynth and a few hard/slick snow areas on the glacier but there was great traction for crampons everywhere. Mild sun cupping on the glacier.

Temps were high 40s at the hut and lows in the 20s. The only uncomfortable zone was the upper Labrynth and lower glacier which you reach just before dawn. The wind at that point drives the wind chill down. It warmed up nicely when the sun came up.

Clouds were rolling in after noon, so plan to be well down the glacier by 11 AM.
