Iso-butane canisters in Ecuador?

by Shirley Lam » Fri Dec 19, 2008 11:50 pm

Does anyone know if isobutane-propane canisters are easy to find in Quito, Ecuador? We're thinking of taking our MSR Pocket Rocket when we go mid-January. Thanks!

They can be found, but it sure wasn't easy for us. Couldn't get them at any of the climbing stores, finally found them at a general sports store. It was in the same touristy area as most of the climbing stores, I believe it was on Avenida 12 de OCtubre (though it might have been 6 de Dicembre). This was a year ago, maybe someone will have more up to date information.

Thanks for the info! We´re in Ecuador right now and canisters were really easy to find in the Mariscal area in Quito.

Hey Shirley,

Got any climbing in down there? I'm depressed to not be able to do the Taco Stand Tour. :?

If you stick to mountains with huts, you could leave the stove at home.
