Paria Canyon Bobcat Tracks?

by Nelson » Sun Oct 18, 2009 6:32 pm

Saw these tracks last week on our fourth and last night at the mile 30 campsite. I'm guessing bobcat but wonder if more knowledgable folks concur.
The lens cap is about 3 inches / 75 mm in diameter.
Thanks.

Canine tracks have definite claw marks. . . .

I don't see any claw marks in your photo, so it seems to indeed be a cat print. But the shape looks more like the canine illustration. So I won't claim to be an expert either way.

Yes, not the greatest photo and it's not a recent print. We did see plenty of dog tracks along the way, of course, and these 'seemed' different. There were other tracks from this set and they did not have obvious claw marks like a dog. I was hoping to find one with a clear impression of a three lobe heel pad, but never did.

Oh well, might have to let it go unidentified.

I was using this link also:

Thanks for the replies.

I've always trusted the back lobe count, and that one looks like it only has two. I'd say dog of some kind.. maybe coyote.
