Japan: Feb/March Skiing?

Just found out I will be going to Japan in february/ march

anyone here gone to Japan this time of year / have advice? ... particuarly for backcountry skiing?

any advice would be appreciated- I don't even know where to start looking for information/partners in Japan... This should be good!

lived in Japan from 1995-1997 and skied/ice climbed often. Definately get out if you can. Its beautiful.

There is a lot of skiing inbounds and outabounds. Watch avalanche conditions. A lot of people die every year in avalanches. I knew a young woman from climbing who was from Chiba who was killed in one. I forget the site for avi conditions, but you can probably google it pretty easy.

North of Tokyo by Ichinokarasawa (one of my favorite mtns for climbing) has quite a bit of skiing and the Olympics were up in this region. The area around Ichinokarasawa is particularly bad for avi's though.

The Kita (northern) Alps are beautiful and shouldn't be missed.
