Rappelling Instruction in Idaho?

by MountainMan38 » Mon Feb 01, 2010 4:01 am

I know this is probably a long shot but, does anyone know of a climbing gym near Twin Falls, Boise or Ketchum, Idaho area where one can take instructional courses in rappelling? Any ideas are welcomed. Thanks.

Regards, Erik

get and read freedom of the hills, practice setting up a rap in your backyard with a safety prusik, and then practice on a short incline before moving to steeper rappels. and always use a backup.

Idaho Mountain Rec out of Boise puts on a day or two course on basic climbing/rappelling if you are looking for an official class. Idahosummits is full of people as well from Boise/Eastern Idaho that may be willing to teach you as well. Im out of Boise and wont be climbing (rock) much for the next few months but have no problem teaching the basics if you end up this way in the Spring...

Funny that you should mention that book. I just ordered it and will check out that section on rappelling. Thanks so much for your advice.

I'm not to far from Boise and would be willing to take you up on your offer this spring. I'll keep in touch. I'll send you a PM. Thanks again and take care.
