Ice climbing in Logan????

by bubbles » Wed Feb 17, 2010 3:42 am

There is some guy who claims that there is a 100' ice route in logan canyon. He says that it is farmed from an aqueduct above it, but that was in 2002. Has anyone heard about or climbed this route????[/img]

I live in Logan and although I'm not an ice climber I can tell you that I've had a few ice climber friends who've lived here and never went climbing up Logan Canyon. I'd say your best bet is to call the Trailhead (435-753-1292) or maybe someone in the climbing section at Al's Sporting Goods (1-888-752-5151), I'm sure that one of those places will be able to give you a good idea what the current conditions are like.

It's true that there has been a farmed ice route in Logan Canyon in the past. I thought The Man had put a stop to it, but maybe somebody with more current local knowledge will pipe up with better news. FWIW, there's also been some ice farming from time to time across the valley near Cutler Dam.

You should try contacting USU Outdoor Rec. Somebody there might know the story.

ok, I'll try that. Thanks! On a side note, are there any ice routes remotely close to there?

There are a few routes up there that are good, if short. I climbed at the dam (at the mouth of the canyon) a long time ago. I don't think those are 100', but...

I made a small page for an out of the way climb higher in the canyon that I did a while back.

have fun.

There's several climbs in the utah guide book up there. good luck.

that sounds like just the thing! Since this is my first year ice climbing, that sounds like a pretty easy lead. Thanks for the help!
