Red Rock in late may - too hot?

What do you think? We climbed there in early March when it was cold so all routes in shady canyons are still to be climbed.

Well, I'm not a climber, but I do scramble over the peak tops and canyons a lot.

The answer depends a lot on the luck of the draw. For example, Sunday it was 80F in Vegas; Monday it was 65F. I've seen days in June when the high at the RR Visitor center was 71F.

There are many climbs on N-facing walls. Much of the "heat" of southern Nevada is diminished if you stay out of the sun. Ice Box Canyon is so-named for a reason.

If you come out here and the temps are intolerable that week, you might consider climbing at the Hood off Kyle Canyon -- starts at ~8000'.

Yes, it makes sense. I was also thinking that if we happen to hit a 'heat wave" we could drive to Sierras.

Nein!! Then there was that one memorial day when it was raining for 3+ days & snowing just above the road level.

Really depends on where you're climbing and the weather. The first and second pullouts will be toasty, but Black Velvet could be really chilly. I think you'll find plently to climb. It's not like the locals stop climbing after April.
