But he had this large fixed-blade hunting knife in his waistband. After a while I thought about it, he could probably brandish it in an emergency and get what he needed by force. Maybe he wasn't as unprepared as I first thought.

LOL Doug!

Sometimes you can be prepared and the heat can still get you. Last October seven marines were rescued on Skyline.

The problem is that "Cactus to Clouds" is such a euphonious name. The trail should be renamed "Cactus to Corpses" and labeled as such.

Take a page from Hunter S Thompson and call it "The Fat Trail."

Reflects the strong reluctance of S&R officials to charge the individual for rescue. They do bill the person's county of residence however if he wasn't a resident of the county where he was rescued. It's almost laughable where the article relates the suspicion that one hiker needed rescue once in winter conditions and once in summer conditions. What does that person's learning curve look like?

You have it all wrong!
14'ers, County Highpoints, SPS, HPS; those lists have been done to death. Rescues in each of the seasons, though, now there's something worth working on!
He's going for the complete C2C set. Look for Fall or Spring next.
