Temple Crag - Good conditions, fast descent

by Tom Fralich » Mon Jun 21, 2010 3:20 pm

For anyone who's interested, I climbed Moon Goddess Arete on Sunday. The conditions on all of the aretes look good...definitely no problems on Moon Goddess. I recommend boots and crampons for the snow slope getting up to the base of the routes. The snow comes down pretty low (maybe 100m below the traverse ledge) and it is very firm. Ice axe is not necessary. The descent is super fast. No snow getting down to Contact Pass. Lots of snow that can be boot glissaded getting back to the lakes (another reason to have boots). We did the descent from the summit to 1st Lake in 2 hours.

PNUT, I'd love any additional beta you get/got from your trip. . I'll be headed out that way in about a week myself.

Thanks[/quote]
