Which trail??

SF (MAIN) or NF?

I highly recommend that you immediately contact the Inyo County Sheriff Dispatch as they are in charge of all SAR OPS in that area, not the USFS, @ 760-878-0383 and advise them of the situation.

When in doubt, you should call the Inyo County Sheriff Department and ask for Inyo Search and Rescue. Even if they don't start searching until first light, it will give them time to get things organized, and if your BIL walks out - no harm, no problem.

I now highly suggest that you call the number immediately and inform them of the situ and give them all the info that you have.

Forget the INYO SAR PAGE.... it only refers you to ICS Dispatch for anything as a CONTACT #.

Call DISPATCH! Independence IC Sheriff's Dispatch Office 760-878-0323

Have her call them again and have the dispatcher confirm to recall at 0600 if she is not contacted by your BIL before that time.

Unfortunately, the dispatcher is right, they can not dispatch any SAR resources until that first light to go check out the situ. But at least they have it on record that you have notified them of the impending situ.

Just have her recontact the IC Sheriff Dispatcher at the number she previously called and confirm with them what time she should call them in the morning if your BIL does not contact her before that time. That way it is on the record as the conversation will be recorded.

Unfortunately, that is all you can do. SGT Hardcastle, who is In Charge of Inyo SAR, WILL NOT dispatch any of his posse until first light. The CHP Helo (Inyo SAR's SGT Hardcastle's first choice for Helo Air Support) from Victorville will not launch till first light either.

So pray for the best and follow up at 0600. I have first hand experiences with ICSAR and SGT Hardcastle. They will indeed do their best.
