WTB - Down Suit

by MountainMan38 » Mon Oct 04, 2010 12:45 pm

I want to purchase a down suit but I am finding it difficult to find something in my size and limited places who sell them. The places who do are either sold out of my size or don't stock them. Can someone point me in the right direction. I am 6'2" 220 lbs. Thanks in advance.

You after a particular brand? Mountain Hardwear, North Face, Rab, Marmot, Feathered Friends, Eider, Mountain Designs, Bask, Mountain Equipment ... There's just so many!

These guys have L & XL in stock: http://www.backcountry.com/mountain-har ... -suit-mens
As do these: http://www.thenorthface.com/webapp/wcs/ ... tionId=612
Tried http://featheredfriends.com/Picasso/Gar ... nSuit.html ?
Or: http://www.prolitegear.com/rab_expedition_suit.html
These are as good as they come: http://www.phdesigns.co.uk/expedition.php?cat=124

I asked, because like all this stuff they fit differently. North Face ones tend to fit smaller than Marmot or Feathered Friends. You might find some are too tight in the legs. Also depends what you're using it for, as to what you'll be wearing underneath. I'm 6' 7" and 200lbs. My Marmot suit is plenty big in XL, whereas the NF ones I've tried on are noticeably tighter fit. Eider is smaller again. MHW maybe in between? If you find the sizing a problem, Feathered Friends would be the best to fit you. They're expensive, but made in the USA (Seattle), they can make custom changes and the quality is very good.

Thank you Damien. That is good to know. I am going to be photographing a lot more in the winter in the Sawtooths and I will be placing myself on high ridgelines where wind and sometimes sub-zero temps. will be a factor. I will be standing still most of the time and a little climbing but nothing too extreme. I also want something I'd be comfortable sleeping in as well. Thanks again, your info was very helpful.
