Lockett Meadow closed?

by lcarreau » Tue Oct 12, 2010 3:08 am

The USFS has a special closure in effect for Lockett Meadow/Inner Basin in the SF Peaks until year's
end, is that correct or can it be confirmed ???

Fer crying out loud, that kind of puts the damper on my Autumn leaves viewing. Geez Louise!

Its a big disappointment. Just learned as well that everything east of The Weatherford Trail is closed. Yet, Shultz Pass and that general area is open?!?

Alex, did you come up by way of Schultz Pass ?? WTF...

Why would they close the 552 Road going into Lockett Meadow Campground, which was several
miles away from the area burned by the fire ??? ?

I just called the USFS office in Flag, and the man said I could face a fine of $250.00 just by walking in. Hey, just trying to make some sense out of all this..

All my wife and I want to do is look at some pretty autumn leaves.

Just learned that the TH is open near Schultz Tank, going up the Weatherford Trail.

Definitely go up there. With Lockett Meadow being closed, the Weatherford Trail is the second best option to see the aspen changing color. I kept having to remind myself that I was in Arizona when I hiked that trail last weekedn

Thanks, Mister Wood!

Sounds like there's a political motive for closing the meadow. Great pictures, by the way.

You might consider heading out to the White Mountains. Although the peaks aren't as impressive as the ones above Flag, the aspens are generally even more spectacular. Although this might be the last good weekend there....

Thanks for the encouragement and words of wisdom.

I know there's a lot that sucks about Arizona (another thread), but I always
look forward to driving the 50 miles up to Flagstaff to see what's happenin'
with all the pretty leaves and such.

This year, the USFS pulled a fast one on me, by closing Lockett Meadow and
a perfect spot to view the golden aspen.

Apparently, another thing to add to my list of what SUCKS about Arizona.

Oh well, reckon I'll check out the Schultz Pass area next week.. ...
