And this will probably give a new impulse to the "plans and partners" functionality, kind of left apart currently.

Matt, I was wondering how was calculated the Suggestion Score for Suggested Mountains.

I guess these are my unclimbed mountains climbed by people who climbs the same things as me, sorted decreasingly ? But why such big numbers ? You applied some sort of weighting on them ?

Another question, are unclimbed mountains close to those I climbed, selected via other factors than other people ? for example geographic proximity ?

One more idea: could we sort these mountains / routes / objects by country ? ;)

Interesting DB stuff anyway... I wish I could play with some SELECTs on the SQL base of SP... for sure there are some cool stuff still to imagine ! :)

Here's something to ponder -- I'd be stunned if it has a technical solution.

I like to avoid crowds. My #1 suggested mountain (by far) is Longs. Because of the crowds I have no interest in climbing Longs, though I've enjoyably missed them. The new feature -- which, again, is great -- tells me to climb things that other people climb. But if you like solitude you should climb things that other people don't climb.

But I'd still like to climb things that are pretty much like the things that I'm avoiding. 13ers instead of 14ers in Colorado, for example.

Again, I'd be stunned if there's a way to suggest peaks like that.

Matt,

I want to applaud new innovations to this site. It's great to draw in new users and engage existing members.

Good stuff, please keep it coming! (I know, I know - in sofware / technology, the more the developer innovates, the more the customer / member demands innovation - the innovation spiral!)

Thanks & cheers,

Sarah

Me, I'm amazed at the suggestions of mountains and routes. I wonder how it computed the results. Very interesting.

:-)

Interesting new features :) Nice work Matt !

I've been tinkering with Suggested Mountains / Routes over the last couple of days, and have noted the following :

1. It suggested a route page I had authored, but had not yet signed the climber's log for, so I went back and signed it.

2. It suggested several area/range objects which had children that I'd already signed climber's logs in -- some examples would be Yosemite National Park, the Palisades and the Santa Lucia Mountains.

3. I was surprised to see that it even suggested Logistical Centers, eg. Eastern Sierra. But similarly, should that happen if I've signed a summit log for a child of the logistical center ? In this case, Eastern Sierra is a parent of Mammoth Lakes Basin (area / range), which is a parent of Crystal Crag, whose summit log I already signed.

No big deal, and I suppose it could be argued either way -- even if someone has climbed X mountain in Y range, they may want to know about the other stuff in Y range.

I was not surprised to see that People Who Climb the Same Things as you recommended many of the SP'ers I've met and/or climbed with

Hope this helps !

Having known and climbed with both of you I strongly recommend that you do not climb together: you will hate each other.

That's relatively easy to do if you want to do a bit of stalking. Look at what climber's logs the hot climbing chicks have signed and sign those and delete all of the rest of your climber's log entries.

Doubt that will work since the person at the top of my list has no summits in common with me.
