waterproofing polyester clothing

by Joe White » Wed Feb 23, 2011 5:29 am

Hey all, I've got a piece of clothing (Orage Byron Jacket) that I like using as a mid layer when skiing and climbing but it doesn't have "any" water repellency. It's got smooth stretch polyester fabric on the outside with a thin brushed fleece interior.

Just two questions:

1. Has anyone ever used a spray on repellency application on clothing and if so, how did it affect your garment's performance?
2. Can you recommend any waterproofing spray treatment or wash designed for clothing?

Don't use wash-ins, they'll coat every fibre.
You want to repel moisture from the elements but wick, spread and transport moisture from your inner layers. Wash-ins coat everything indiscriminately...

Wash very well and apply spray-on water repellent

Scotch-Gaurd used to be the spray on water rapellent but it will impede breathability and its cancerous.
