Last Thursday, March 10, a climber triggered an avalanche while soloing Pinnacle Gully, a moderate snow and ice route in Huntington Ravine on Mount Washington in northern New Hampshire. The 31-year-old man, who was using proper ice climbing equipment including crampons and ice tools, was swept down the chute for 1,300 feet. At the bottom, despite having serious injuries including a broken femur, he pulled out his cell phone and called 911 at 10:45 a.m.
