Refuges on Trient Plateau

by northcave » Tue Jan 10, 2012 11:29 am

Has anyone stayed in any of the refuges up on the Trient Plateau near Chamonix?

Ideally we want to use the Cabane du Trient and wondered if anyone know what facilities are available in winter? I'm going to assume they have a wood burner and blankets but could do with a heads up beforehand.

We're going for Aiguille Du Tour so happy to consider other cabins such as Albert also if you think the approach is nicer or the cabin is much better.

Thoughts?

from internet (never been there):http://www.cas-diablerets.ch/trient.
The "guardians", Melanie Chollet and Olivier Genet have propane and wood burning stoves. This is in their 26 minute video- one season in the cabin. There appears to be a big old cast iron cooking range as well as a wood burning heater in the film. At one point they get water by shoveling snow through the window and dumping the snow into kettles on the wood range.
