is there a .kmz/.kml(google earth) file directory?

I love going back over trips and re-tracing the route on Google Earth, it's amazing how familiar it can feel to the real thing sometimes.
I also use it before a trip to meticulously map out routes, distance, elevation, etc

I've not seen a repository on SP or any real GE, in fact i can't find a decent place anywhere online to find these.

looking for a good repository for popular hikes etc. think Haute Route, Half Dome(actually google has this particular hike online), the Lost Coast, PCT, JMT, etc etc etc.
are SP members talking about these / using these and i just can't find where?

if not, is there another place this is happening?

if not, why not? does anyone else use GE for this? would anyone be interested in this?
thanks!

(p.s. did a search in teh forum and i can't see much discussion around this.)

--EDIT: fyi here's a screenshot of the elevation profile, this is of the Teton Crest Trail in GTNP.

There are a number of pages on SP that use GPS data to plot routes on Google Earth images, or with various other topo programs. People also add the GPS data to the page via GPX files which can be downloaded and used as you wish.

This was begun in 2009: http://www.summitpost.org/embedded-maps ... tes/578750 and has no doubt helped a lot of people since.

I agree that a way of finding pages that have GPX files in would be handy because it would likely turn up a bunch. You can do a search like this http://www.summitpost.org/object_list.p ... bject_name but I don't know how comprehensive it is really. FYI, wandermap.net is a site with lots of such user-generated downloadable files, there are others no doubt.
