Here is "scrambling" in the Wadi Rum (rated YDS 5.3 or UIAA III or French 3)

Here is my brother at the top of another Norman Clyde "class 3 scramble" (the steep slab directly below him, it ain't YDS class 3)

And here's what I consider to be a true (easy) scramble.

IMO grades and classifications are only coarse guidelines. They're different for everyone. Personally, I draw the line at "If I'm willing to downclimb the same way I climbed it's a scramble" This will vary from climber to climber.

When making decisions on whether or not to rope up, use your own grading system.
You can always leave the gear in the car or cache it. This way I believe you'll have more fun and come home in one piece.

In Djibouti, we call it scrambling if you need to carry the goats up the rock, rather than let them climb on their own.

The main difference is routefinding on Crib Coch, I consider it even easier than grade 1 or grade 1 at the limit ... You can easily make it grade 3 or a rock climb which is making it fun

Check my north ridge page of crib coch, it is even a walk-up in my opinion ...

I was including the scrambling before/after the ridges as well in my assessment, but the ridge traverse is definitely more serious on Crib Goch than Striding Edge too and in harsh weather it's a scramble. (I also imagine it might become a bit of a scramble on new years eve with a bottle of whiskey in me.... but I wouldn't know about that  )

I remember laughter. The forests would echo with it...

It seems to me that YDS Class 3 equals a British scrambling grade 1.

Well, the highest of the British scrambling grades refer to something this difficult or even slightly harder.

Had to "scramble" for a video on this one ...

In Marrakesh, a dude with a goatee and another dude with a cool mustache sing about riding on a cosmic train ..

Pictures of YDS classes rarely look as creepy as the rock feels when you are actually there, in a position to fall.

Whaddyaknow. Pink Floyd got my local area in the beginning of that Video. Mt Beerwah and then Mt Coonowrin pan in from the right before it morphs to another scene.

Small world innit?
