Trekking around Villach, Austria.

by dearny » Sun Jun 10, 2012 3:52 pm

Greetings from England.

I'm heading out to visit family near Villach in Austria on Friday (15 June), for 10 days. I visited last summer, and i hiked from Afritz-am-see up to Wollaner Nock and Kaiserberg. This was the first time i've ever been hiking outside the UK, and I've got to admit it was pretty breath taking.

My question is this; One of the mountains I am planning to hike up is the Dobratsch. I am interested in summiting from the Eastern slopes, i believe it's the more easy route, but is there much in the way of scenery? I'm pretty fit and i am very tempted to have a go at the ridge, but as i will be on my own, i'm not to sure if it's a good idea. Can anyone help?

Cheers, Simon.
