Boots size 35/36!..small feet...big dreams

by Deborah » Mon Jun 11, 2012 8:50 pm

Hi All,

I am an Irish girl with tiny feet, I usually wear a size 35/2.5 (Womens UK,5 Womens US). I have searched everywhere for boots suitable for elbrus, aconcagua and denali but can get nothing in my size.

The likes of Scarpa vega/inverno,koflach artic, spotiva baruntse come in a 37(Womens Uk 4.5,Womens US 6.5). If I allow for thicker socks and swelling,I reckon a 36 would be ideal.

The smallest I can find is the sportiva nepal exo gtx for women in a 36,but I am afraid they wont be warm/dry enough for elbrus, denali etc

Does anyone know of any brands that make suitable boots in these small sizes. Perhaps some asian manufacturer might cater for smaller sizes? Or indeed if anyone is aware if the likes of scarpa, lowa, sportiva, koflach, kaylands would make a custom small pair? Of all the inspiring women who have reached the summit of everest, surely some have overcome a small feet problem like mine :).... any help/advice apprecciated.

Denali will be a problem, but for Elbrus and Aconcagua you might get away with:

These: http://www.rbhdesigns.com/product/34&cf ... d-sock.htm

inside Nepal Evo 36, with these over the top: http://www.40below.com/products_detail.php?ProductID=3

And a strap-on crampon. For Aconcagua and Elbrus you could even go with a less-stiff, less-technical leather boot, just so long as it's stiff enough to take crampons - something like a Scarpa Manta or a custom job from Altberg in the UK.

Maybe do Elbrus and Aconcagua in this setup then decide if you really want to continue on, then worry about Denali etc?

Good suggestions. The other thought that occured to me was use the smallest plastic shells and Intuition liners molded to your feet and the boots. There is a huge amount of leeway once you heat them...as they get really puffy. Put those or use the ones that come in a Scarpa Omega and Denali would be no problem.

Hi, Deborah! May I ask if you found a solution for this problem? I'm a size 5 (US) and I'm having a lot of trouble finding mountaineering boots as well. Thanks!
