hwy 97 north of Redmond or Madras

by 1974runner » Thu Jul 12, 2012 8:55 pm

So have to drive through Oregon and will need a place to camp. Timing puts me North of madras. Any ideas for cool campgrounds no more than 30 minutes from highway north of Redmond or Madras area. Would love a swimming hole if it was to be found in that high desert area.

I cant think of anything north of Madras short of a rest stop about 20-30 miles up highway 97. Lake Billy Chinook a short distance west of Madras is nice though. Its only 10-15 minutes off the highway and there are campgrounds and a large reservoir.

This doesn't at all contribute to the discussion at hand, but 1974runner, they didn't start making 4runners until 84.

Thanks for the info. Trout creek looks nice. I'll put it on the list. Ended up having to go by way of govt. camp due to Hwy 97 closed N. of Madras from forest fire. Camped at Nottingham in Hood forest.

I know the 4runners showed up in 84. I was born in 1974 and i have a 1st gen 4runner so 1974runner it is.

Thanks for all the info from everyone. This is a nice community
