NH - Welch Dickey Loop Trail

by TTA89 » Mon Aug 20, 2012 6:34 pm

Hi All,

This is my 1st year hiking and I'm having a lot of fun. I started out with Wachusett and then did Monadnock and after a recomendation I did the Welch Dickey Loop. I *loved* this one so much I came back to do it again this past weekend. I'm not quite ready for any of the longer 7-9 mile hikes but I'd like to try something else in the White Mountains. Can you recommend anything like Welch Dickey that isn't just a walk through the woods up and back? I loved the loop and that the scenery was changing all the time with lots of places to look out.

Thanks
-Mike :D

Check out Mt Cardigan. The west ridge route will get you out of the woods the fastest, that route is basically an up-and-back but there's plenty to explore once you get up there. There are loops from the east (including the Holt trail which is quite steep) but they spend some time in the woods.

Pick any loop on Mt Chocorua.

Try the Baldface loop in Evans Notch.

That'll be enough to get you into shape for the classic Lincoln-Lafayette loop in Franconia Notch.
