Fall color from Sedona to Denver...

by theredviolins » Sun Oct 07, 2012 5:42 pm

I'll be driving from Sedona back to Denver on Friday, with no particular route decided. I was wondering about the areas of CO with the best colors around that time. Any input will be greatly appreciated...

Personally, depending on how much time, the first section i'd do is Sedona, oak creek canyon, flagstaff, tuba city, kayenta, durango, ouray and then get some better recommendations. The Aspens should be winding down in Silverton, but should still br pretty good.

Oak Creek Canyon is KICK-ASS, but it's still kind of early ... too bad you can't stay another week ..... :(

You can check out this thread. Colorado colors ran a bit early this year, so fall aspens could be in short supply by the end of the week, thought there will probably still be some patches here or there. Lower elevation stuff like cottonwoods and oak brush will probably still be going. Good luck, and enjoy the drive!

I just got back from Flagstaff and aspens are peaking and so were the crowds at the Snow Bowl.
