Moved to Switzerland, looking for mountain adventures!

by elichten » Wed Jan 02, 2013 8:59 pm

Hello Switzerland! My wife and I moved to just outside of Luzern in July, had our first child in September, and now that we're getting settled I want to see what my options are for finding climbing/hiking partners in Switzerland. Anyone nearby?

I haven't checked in with the local climbing clubs yet, I thought I'd start here first. I've done glacier travel, some ice climbing, and plenty of winter camping/hiking, but now that I have a son my threshold for risk has gone pretty low. I'm looking for some via ferratas, alpine ridge hikes, maybe roped up glacier travel. But if I've got to place protection I'm probably not interested. I'm more of an alpine climber than a rock and ice guy. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

If you're looking for via ferrata (klettersteig) in Switzerland, I found "Via Ferrata Switzerland" published by Rother to be useful. I picked up an English copy at Orell Fuessli in Zurich. There are some nice ones that aren't far from Luzern including the Fuerenwand.
