Purchase butan gas canister in Seattle?

by andre hangaard » Mon Jun 24, 2013 10:29 am

I arrive from overseas to Seattle on Wednesday and need to buy some butan gas canisters (for jet boil etc). I was advised to get them at REI in Seattle but they seem to be out of stock!! Can anyone advise me an alternative? Maybe regular gas canisters are available at Walmart, Target etc? Thanks in advance :-)

Andre,
Feathered Friends retail store is just a few blocks away from REI downtown Seattle:

Why do you think they are out of stock if you haven't even been in the store?

Any good outdoor store will have butane canisters. I don't think Target will - they probably only have the larger propane canisters for car-camping stoves.

REI's website no longer shows butane canisters because they cannot ship them legally, so you can't order them on the internet or by phone. They still carry them in the stores.

The tiny REI in Issaquah stocks Jet Boil, MSR, Snow Peak and Primus brands. I would be surprised if the Flagship Seattle store was out. Other options in Seattle include Feathered Friends (they have a full retail climbing shop), Pro Mountain Sports (in the U District, that is near the University of Washington), Second Ascent (in Ballard, ya sure ya betcha), Marmot Mountain Works in Bellevue, Pro Ski and Guide in North Bend, Backpackers Supply or REI in Tacoma if you happen to be heading south from Seattle. GI Joe's used to carry them, but I think they were bought out by Sports Authority and I haven't looked since. On 4th Ave in the SoDo district of Seattle you can go to the MSR factory and buy gas, as well as visit Outdoor Research's retail store.

If you want to find out the right gas for your Jet Ski then visit this - What kind of gas does a jet ski take?
