Winter Tent Suggestions

by jareds » Tue Oct 22, 2013 5:34 am

Yo SP'ers,

A few years ago I asked for winter shelter suggestions - ended up getting the beta light which has served me well; taken on the Teton crest trail, mammoth-Tioga, many others. It's been great!

Now looking for a tent for trips that are less touring, more skiing.
A couple things:

1. Suggestions on 2-3 man tents: weight, strength & durability.
2. Suggestions on gear setups:
Do people get 4-man setups and divide?
Do ppl here just use shelters not tents?
Do ppl have both 2-man and 4-man tents?
Are 2-man tents really comfy for 2 ppl?

Just interested in skiing-focused trips.
Thanks!

I'm very happy with my tent by Terra Nova, they do a good job of shedding snow, are light weight, and well thought out construction. Two-man tents are okay for two people, but when it comes to winter camping, I'd be going for a three-man tent for two.
