Glacier Divide Traverse

by erics1234 » Sat Mar 01, 2014 9:29 am

Been wanting to do this one for a while. Anyone up to traverse the Glacier Divide south of Humphreys Basin, sometime in the first week of April? Those who have been on the Glacier Divide tell me its incredibly scenic and has excellent photographic opportunities. PM me if interested.

Time needed: anywhere between 4-5 days, depending on snow conditions and the status of CA-168 and North Lake Rd
Trailhead: North Lake Trailhead (out of Bishop)
Approach: Access the first peak on the traverse (Keyhole Plateau) by heading west from Upper Lamarck Lake on class 2 terrain. I have done this part of the route before.
Exit: Bail off the Glacier Divide by accessing Paiute Canyon to the north. The best way to do this will be by descending northeast from the saddle immediately south of Peak 12577 (class 2-3). Once in Paiute Canyon, follow the canyon east to Paiute Pass, and descend back to North Lake.
Technical difficulty: The traverse is mostly class 2-3 with some isolated class 4 sections.
