Alta Via dei Giganti Aosta valley

by Stefan » Mon Aug 04, 2014 12:52 pm

Preparing my main goal for 2015. How is the trail on this one?
Same for Alte Via 2 on the other side of the valley? Much Via Ferrata or none? How runable is it?

I've done parts of Altavia 1/3 in 1993 (...) and one single part of Altavia 2 in 200x -- Col Lauson from Cogne to Valsavaranche.
Don't remember any ferrata type climbing, but snow is always possible.

There's very little via ferrata on the Alta Via 1 but none on the 2. I have done Courmayeur to Donnas (2) and then to Gressoney St-Jaques (1) during the Tor des Géants. It is a race taking place in the beginning of September and about 600 participants try to run/hike/wobble the 330k in 6 days. The time whether wise is usually great for this trail but you can still encounter thunderstorms and they are no fun when you're about to descent one of the steep peaks. All doable though.

I am planning to do TdG that`s the reason why I ask ;-)
Just hope to get in. Dragon Back in June and TdG in september. The two big goals for 2015 (and a good result in Zamiec here in Poland)
