The Dolly Sods Wilderness area here in West Virginia was an artillery range. You are warned to stay on the trails since the off-trail areas have not be cleared of explosives. Always adds a little adventure to cross-cuntry travel....

On our recent trip to Vietnam it was made very clear that you did not do ANY off trail hiking.
