Red Lake TH

by Bob Burd » Sat Mar 03, 2012 8:34 am

It appears there are more than the usual ruts in the access road to the Red Lake TH this year. Caution is advised.

Guys, I always thought this approach was pretty miserable, one of the worst in the Eastern Sierra to a 14ner and best done with a high clearance vehicles. In 1984 I broke my Saab 99 axle on that road. FWIW.

You Californians are soft. Behold: Lake Como Road in south-central Colorado. A guy *died* trying to get his 4WD all the way up.

Coloradans die easily-- a little thing like cannibalism is enough to put them off kilter.

Coloradans are also 35x more likely to die by lightning than Californians. Talk about weak.

Especially tall, thin ones who are ideal lightning rods.

What's Bob's struck-by-lightning tally up to now, anyways?

Couple thoughts come to mind...... :)
- Obvious case of summit fever
- Did you get those over-sized shoe laces stuck on the accelerator again?
- Now you know what the rest of us feel like trying to keep up with you
- Next time, just hit the d*mn jack-rabbit

Seriously, Bob glad you survived

Thanks for your kind concern, but it wasn't my car. I *still* don't have a 4WD vehicle and *still* have to rely on others to get me to that TH. I was actually sitting in the comfort on my home when the accident happened. It was sent to me via email. And I'm no more inclined to get a 4WD - they don't appear very safe to me.

Also, no rabbits or humans or other animals were injured in the making of this tragedy.
