Scarpa Freney XT - how warm?

by markmcgladdery » Wed Jan 04, 2006 6:25 pm

What are users experience of these boots?
Primarily summer alpine i'd be doing but wondering if they'd be warm enough for winter alpine/icefalls?
It's the newer XTG Goretex lined model i'm looking at.
Also, are they too wide fitting for narrow/medium feet?

Thanks for any info !!

What a coincidence...
I just talked to a person who gave the Freney a "five star rating".
He climbed the Polish Direct on Aconcagua and was very satisfied with the boots' performance in all ways.

I have never tried that model myself. Looks good though.

I’ve used them for summer alpine and Scottish winter climbing for the last 2 years and am very impressed with them. Lowest temp I have probably used them in is only about -10c so can’t comment on winter alpine use. The only problem with them is that they are not particularly waterproof but obviously the XTG gets over this through the Goretex lining.

I have fairly wide feet and they fit me ok, obviously you’d need to try a pair on to see how they feel.

Had Sportiva's for years, may stick with them...
