ok, another biting insect question? what are those yellow flies... they are 6 or 7 mm long... it hurts when they bite, but no body does not seem to react to them.... and they are super slow and easy to kill...

That's a very biting question! I think you're talking about what's
known in the PAC NW as 'Deer Flies.' Yes, they can be whacked at
as they're feasting on your blood.

"Give 'em a WHACK, and they won't come BACK!"

Was up in the Cathedral Range twice in the past week. A few in the woods from Budd Lake on down. Thick in the Meadows (as in 20 bites in 10 minutes).

Hey Chief, there wasn't much snow above the lake below Granite Park.
I have a few pics showing the route we took to the pass to Royce Lakes (between Treasure and an unnamed peak) and also some showing conditions at the Lakes, around Royce, Merriam and Feather Peaks, would be happy to try and post them for you when I get home if you like.

Skeeters are out in full force in the NF of Big Pine creek - they start around Cienega Mirth and are present all the way to Sam Mack Meadow and some areas above. Particularly bad in the early morning and evenings.

Visited the Emigrant Wilderness this past weekend. Oh yeah, it's definitely mosquito season  Nothing unusual for this time of year .. just got to treat clothes with permethrin, use the deet and bring a headnet.

Skeeters were pretty bad in the Desolation Wilderness Velma Lakes Basin last week.
(But strangely almost none on the Aloha/Gilmore/Echo side of Dicks Pass)
