To get the map you need to "add a free form field" to your profile and then create the html code to reference the map image. I got mine at the site below. My html string (for my state HPs) reads as follows:
<img src="http://www.world66.com/myworld66/visitedStates/statemap?visited=AZCACOCTDEGAKYMEMDMANVNHNJNMNYNCORPARITNVTWV"><br/> <a href="http://www.world66.com/myworld66">create your own personalized map of the USA</a>

It's a pretty cool little app! I would love to get out on some more trips this fall but it probably is not going to happen until next spring!

Well I know most highpointers are getting ready for winter hibernation so to quench my highpointing thirst during these lean times I have completed my first trip report (more work than I thought). Anyways enjoy, it covers NE,CO,NM,OK,and KS that I did in 4 days back in September. I think i got a pretty cool shot of mount sunflower which I know is near and dear to many of our hearts.

Jow, thanks for the report. Left you a few comments on the page. My goals for 2011: ID, VA, SC, OH, IN, maybe UT. So many opportunities for fun, so little time! Happy Thanksgiving to those of you in the US!

Thanks for reading. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. My goals for 2011 are NH, PA, MD, WV and maybe VT if I can squeeze it in but heading to Europe for awhile so vacation days are tight.

I snuck in 2 more HPs this wekend; Mt Magazine and Driskill Mountain. That brings my total for the year up to 5. (MN / UT / ID / AR / LA) My goal is to hit 4-6 per year. Considering I took time out to get married this year, I'm happy with that number... I plan to hit 10 more next year and then finish in 2012.

Good work George. I didn't get any this year but climbed some peaks in the NW I always wanted to so a good year. And AK's done!

Yes indeed, AK is done! I'm going to hit all of the Southeastern state HPs next year. If you're looking to do those, let me know. I don't have any partners lined up yet.

Has anyone figured out the best logistics for doing the Southern 6-pack as far as where to start, what sequence to do them, and what is the most efficient driving route?

I am planning a trip like that for 2012 but because I am trying to include my wife and my cousins girl who don't want to hike everyday and make it a nice vacation I am doing it a bit different. The plan is for September around the Asheville BrewGrass beer festival and Asheville will be base of operations for lower 4 since they are all close enough and it is supposedly a really fun town. So hike morning and then live music and restaurants at night. Then drive north pick up VA and then Kentucky in time to hit the Kentucky bourbon festival also in September and stay somewhere in KY near the events. That is my lofty goal anyways, and as you can see from previous trip report I enjoy combining highpointing with drinking events.

That's a great plan! I'll have to see if there is anything interesting happening out there in May. That's when I plan to go.

Has anyone noticed how the travel maps work on http://www.world66.com...? (You know those colorful maps some of us use in our profile pages to track the state highpoints...) You check off the states that you've visited in the world66 website and it generates some HTML code that you can copy/paste into your profile page to show the map. In reality, the HTML code is just a simple image (gif) file that is based on the states that you specified. (See examples below.)

In thinking about this, it it occured to me that they must have a gif file for every possible combination of states. That amounts to one hell of a lot of gif files! If my math is correct, that equals 2 to the 50th power, or 1,125,899,906,842,620 possible combinations. Are there any math wizards here? Did I calculate that correctly?!

Examples: Right click images below and check the URL under properties. Note that both URLs are gif files... (The maps are static images. They are not dynamically created.)

With AK, AR, AZ in the URL.

Yes, you are correct. Each state has two "options": colored in, or not colored in; thus, 2 to the 50th power. This includes the blank map.

I doubt they have every conceivable map stored somewhere. It's a simple code that "tells" when to color in a state, so the maps are created dynamically.

Sweet! Those maps are awesome. Mine is a little light on the red, but I'm getting there:

My plans for 2011 are:
1. Mt Washington in January via a Presidential Traverse, then maybe again sometime later in a climb of Central Gully with some SPers.
2. Mt Rainier in May as part of a Denali Prep class, and then maybe again in August with some friends.
After that I'm open to suggestions.

If anyone is heading to the Delaware HP this year let me know. I live 20 minutes away.

Correct, the code creates the map each time, rather than accessing a stored image. Hey, I live about 3.5 miles away from the mighty Ebright Azimuth. Stop by for a beer!
