In 2008 I ran in to a young Brit on Aconcagua that was trying the same thing. He was at about 18,000 feet climbing with what looked like several family members, friends and guides and was having a difficult time. The lead climber didn't think he had a chance but they kept going up. Never found out if he made it to the top of Aco or ever went to Everest.
