You might want to look at the trail conditions reports at the Ventana Wilderness Alliance website -- apparently the Stone Ridge trail is being worked on, and that part of the trail is still in bad shape -

I've hiked that trail in the past, but after the fires of 2008 it got really overgrown .. I tried getting to Goat Camp last year from Vicente Flat and didn't have much luck. I decided to just scramble down the West Fork of Limekiln Creek instead.

If I were you I'd camp at either Vicente Flat or Cook Springs instead. Haven't been to Cook Springs lately, but it ought to be good in the fall (that whole area gets really hot and buggy in the summer). You might also want to ask your questions on the VWA's forum -

edit: Oh, and there is no "Goat Campground" in Limekiln state park .. what is posted on hikercentral.com looks pretty much bogus. Hope you aren't basing your trip plan on that crap :shock:
